Mark-to-Market Accounting (Section 475(f))
Mark-to-Market (MTM) is an accounting method available to traders who qualify for Trader Tax Status. Under normal tax rules, you only realize gains or losses when you actually close a position. Under MTM, all open positions are treated as if they were sold at fair market value on the last business day of the tax year.
