Trading Relationships Between Commodities
While calendar spreads trade different months of the same commodity, inter-commodity spreads trade the price relationship between two different but fundamentally linked commodities. These spreads capture the economic relationships that exist in the real economy — the cost of refining oil into gasoline, the value of processing soybeans into meal and oil, or the relative pricing of gold versus silver.
